Rough Guide to Bali

Penjor "Hey I am coming to Bali, can you recommend me things to do?" I got that question a lot. I get it, I live in Bali so people would think that I master everything about Bali. Well... 50:50. I happened to travel around Bali since 2017. So it wasn't wrong to assume me knowing Bali. But I am also a lazy traveler so I don't always do many things in one place.  That is why we will call this a rough guide to Bali.  First thing first, define your style of traveling. Because we all know that Bali is an island. Not a city. So it is quite big, you know. You can not explore all of it in two weeks. Well you might be able to do so, but probably not immersing enough of it.  So... what is your style of traveling? Bali offers you some cultures, quiet normal life, party hotspots, quiet beaches, busy beaches, temples, and so on.  Mt Batur West part of Bali (Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta) If you enjoy partying, you might want to spend your time more in the west part of Bali like Canggu, ...

Sunbathing, Why?

Sanur

Growing up as an Asian, in a tropical country, make me want to avoid the sun as much as possible. Well... you obviously need the sunlight still, in the morning - but not during the hottest hour of the day.

We’re taught to cover our bodies under the sun lol. Doesn’t really matter how, but fully covered by a jacket, long sleeves, or long pants while driving a scooter is definitely a normal thing to do in Indonesia 😌😎.

On the other hand, foreigners find it funny. Because “It’s too hot to cover yourself like that under the sun”. Well... we have two things here in Indonesia. Humidity and high temperature. You’re so right about "it’s too hot to cover like that" because we have very high humidity. But when you don't cover yourself like that, the sunlight will “bite” you, and that way you'll get sunburn.

Moving to Bali, I see too many foreigners driving the scooter nakedly. Yes, well, in a bikini or topless and very short pants. Like, almost naked. It always makes me think “OMG you’ll get a massive sunburn! Cover yourself ffs”. In the middle of the day.

This sunny, hot, it was 35 degree, without any shade 😑

As well as sunbathing on the beach, directly exposed to the sun, on its hottest day. I usually go to the beach around 1 PM as well, but I always find a shade. I can’t let myself get direct exposure like that. In Sanur, we have a lot of trees for shade. I went to Jumeirah beach in Dubai (not a lot of trees there, or should I say there is none?) and I was the only one who was fully covered. The others? Enjoyed sunbathing in their bikinis and swimming pants.

Long pants, jacket, cover my head and neck too because it was just too hot and sunny.

I know, that they live in 4 seasons countries and really appreciate the sun that much. I know how happy I was when I got the sunlight during winter. But... the sun in tropical countries is dangerous during the daytime. Besides, if you wanna get as much sunlight while you’re here, just do it in the morning. It’s a lot safer than in the middle of the day.

Though I still have the same unanswered question, “Why are you doing that?” If you're a foreigner and love to do that, let me know why.

Have a good day, people! 💜

Jumat ceria

Hari ini memang bukan hari jumat, tapi cuman mau bilang aja sih kalo hari yang paling aku tunggu-tunggu itu hari jumat. Why?

Fire in the Building

Who would have thought that I  experienced fire in the building.  This is my first time living in an appartement. Of course I never chose appartement when living in Indonesia because it’s a real high risk when the earthquake happen. But here we are placed in an appartement. What got me relieved the first time that we are in the lowest floor so if something happen we will be quickly evacuated.  That’s what I thought.  Until it really happened.  We slept around midnight and abruptly woken up by the noise outside. I thought it was the drunk people just got back from night club or the restaurant next door was doing some deep cleaning. So loud that I had to wake up. My husband peeked outside and immediately said “fire brigade outside, you wait here!” I was just “am I dreaming or what?” I put on clothes, checked outside and saw a few of fire trucks. I checked the other side of the appartement and saw a few of police cars and ambulances.  “Oh no, something serious...

Jangan minta oleh-oleh!

Taken from internet Pernah nggak kalau kita mau bepergian, trus orang-orang pada bilang 'Jangan lupa oleh-olehnya ya' ?
