Fire in the Building

Who would have thought that I  experienced fire in the building.  This is my first time living in an appartement. Of course I never chose appartement when living in Indonesia because it’s a real high risk when the earthquake happen. But here we are placed in an appartement. What got me relieved the first time that we are in the lowest floor so if something happen we will be quickly evacuated.  That’s what I thought.  Until it really happened.  We slept around midnight and abruptly woken up by the noise outside. I thought it was the drunk people just got back from night club or the restaurant next door was doing some deep cleaning. So loud that I had to wake up. My husband peeked outside and immediately said “fire brigade outside, you wait here!” I was just “am I dreaming or what?” I put on clothes, checked outside and saw a few of fire trucks. I checked the other side of the appartement and saw a few of police cars and ambulances.  “Oh no, something serious...

Denpasar Moon

Sanur

I never thought that I would love to live in Denpasar. My favorite place in Bali is actually Ubud, but that's my POV as a tourist. I tried to look for a place to stay near the beach or some open spaces like a park. The first place I stayed was quite far from those. Well... 15-20 mins, still far. Then I moved a bit to the north and it's only 10 mins from Sanur and a minute walking distance to the big park. Oh and 5 mins walking distance to any government office, like immigration, tax, insurances, banks, post office, BPJS, you name it.

Technically, Denpasar is a big city. But nature around is fantastic. You can access almost everything that a big city can offer, but also you can be in nature as much as you can and it's only within walking distance. Well... a few minutes at least.

When I lived in Malang, it was also in one of the good spots. Though I lived only close to the mall where I usually buy things I need there. Took me at least 30 mins to get to the Alun-alun or enjoy city walking around the old town. It was only 4KM but took me 30 mins. 4KM here I can reach in 10 mins driving. I wasn't able to go to the beach anytime I want. Even if I want to go to Bromo, I still need to arrange the car a day or two before. The closest beach was 2-3 hours from home. Bromo, well... 3 hours I guess. So the closest open space was alun-alun.

People and dog watching in Sanur

I grew up in a small town where we don't have bookstores like Gramedia, let alone Kinokuniya. We need to travel to a bigger city like Surabaya or Malang only to get the books we want to buy. A little access to any open spaces like big parks. Though people can go to the waterfall an hour from my town, but my parents won't let me go because... the town is well known for prostitution center 😅 I kind of jealous of my husband childhood, he did a lot of things in nature. It's a privilege one can have.

I spent my childhood staying home and school.

What I meant was, people need a kind of life that we can enjoy nature after work (or any time we want). It would be ideal, to be honest. I can say that living in Denpasar is making me having this kind of privilege. Maybe you're having a hard time and just wanna release the tension by eating lumpia in Sanur for 5K 😌

Lumpiyang they said

That made me think "I want my kids growing up in a place like this." It doesn't have to be Denpasar but a place where (almost) everything is accessible and also very close to nature and open spaces. It's good.

We'll see. But that's the dream 😉

Speaking of, who still remember Denpasar Moon song?

Cara Memilih Bacaan

I know this is so normal but anyway I like to compare the experiences because people might have different cases and because I have nothing to lose so... here's my experience for applying Schengen Visa via Swiss (VFS). Kenapa nggak via Belanda? Cuma 200an mbak??? Visanya gratis???" "Suaminya masih WN Belanda kan mbak?" "Iya" "Oiya itu gratis, bisa pake visa tipe C. Jadi cuma bayar biaya admin aja" ...
